Ontario Will Be Hit By Freezing Rain & Up To 45 cm Of Snow This Week

Spread the love

Although the end of the month is near, it seems like an end to winter weather is far from over. Freezing rain and up to 45 centimetres of snowfall are expected to hit parts of Ontario increasing the risk of difficult driving conditions. The Ontario storm is expected halfway through this week to put an end to the warmth the GTA has experienced in the past few days.

According to The Weather Network, there is a chance of a significant wintery mix for February 26, and right into the night time hours.

Environment Canada has placed all of southern Ontario under a special weather statement due to the risk of heavy precipitation.

The gradual increase of the winter storm will begin on the 24., with rainfall and wet snow in certain parts of southern Ontario.

Just north of the GTA, only three centimetres of snow is expected, starting in the overnight hours and into Tuesday morning.

Although you may catch some breaks throughout Tuesday, snow will make a comeback into the night and through Wednesday morning.

According to CTV News, Toronto can expect freezing rain to start in the evening and a 70% chance of flurries on Thursday.

“A wide range in snowfall totals is expected across southern Ontario through Wednesday,” says Dr. Doug Gillham, per The Weather Network.

He continued, “at this point we expect 5-15 cm along and south of the 401, but totals will increase to the north and east with 15 to 30+ cm of snow extending from central and northeastern Ontario to southern Quebec, including Muskoka, Ottawa and Montreal.”

According to Global News, areas like London-Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton, and Windsor-Essex-Chatham-Kent could even expect up to 25 centimetres of snowfall by Thursday.

Other parts of Canada are also under weather warnings like Newfoundland which is expecting a massive winter storm.

Come Thursday morning, temperatures will drop right below the freezing point and strong winds could potentially create lake-effect snow for snow belt areas, also likely to reach right into parts of the GTA, according to The Weather Network.

For Ontario drivers, this could really become a nightmare as the weather is expected to end off the month of February, with flurries, freezing rain and lake-effect snow.

The overall total snowfall could range between five to 15 centimetres but The Weather Network says there is still uncertainty in terms of tracking the storm since any change could really affect the amount of rain and snow expected.

So much for a warm welcome for the month of March.
