Experts Say School Will Probably Be Cancelled For The Rest Of The Year In Canada

All schools In Canada will probably be cancelled for the rest of the year in Canada due to concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was based on advice from Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health and the experts at the coronavirus Command Table.

The Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, issued a Ministerial Order to close all publicly funded schools in Canada for two weeks following March break, in response to the emergence in Canada of the pandemic, but Experts say school will probably be cancelled for the rest of the year in Canada 

Schools across all the provinces:Ontario, Prince Edward Island,Newfoundland and Labrador,Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia,Manitoba,Nunavut,Northwest  will remain closed from Monday immediately.

“We recognize the significant impact this decision will have on families, students, schools, as well as the broader community, but this precaution is necessary to keep people safe,” the province said in a statement.

People should at least entertain the possibility that the school year may be done this year,” he told Global. “I’m hesitant to speculate what will happen in September, but it’s also possible that we’ll be dealing with a disrupted school year in September.”

In a press conference yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau echoed a similar sentiment. 

Trudeau said social distancing measures — including school closures — could go on for months. 

“We are going to continue to follow the best recommendations from experts. We’ve heard anything from weeks to months,” he said.

“We know this is a difficult and extraordinary time in which Canadians are taking difficult and extraordinary measures. We’ll continue to do that until Canadians are safe.”
